University Advising Milestones
2009
- Academic Deans’ Council approved a set of “Student Success” Guiding Principles
- Pilot of Freshmen Success Center Program in winter quarter (now known as First Year Success Program) with 4 of the 6 colleges participating
2010
- Cal Poly Advising Council convened an “Advising Structure Committee”
- Comprised of 25 professions and students
- Reviewed strengths & weaknesses of current structure
- Reviewed contemporary advising delivery models
- Attended NACADA Summer Institute
- Made recommendations on advising goals and a model for the campus
- In the fall 2010, Advising Council and Deans Council agreed on a new central advising position: Assistant Vice Provost for University Advising
- Implemented Freshmen Success Program in winter quarter to all 6 colleges
2011
- University Advising Office established and hired the campus’s first Assistant Vice Provost for University Advising
2012
- Proposal for a central Academic Success Center was approved; funded through Student Success Fee (and later received funding through Chancellor’s Office ASSP Funds)
2013
- 2nd incumbent of Assistant Vice Provost for University Advising is hired
- Mustang Success Center launched in building 52
- Created Transfer Success Program (TSP) & offered it in winter & spring quarters
- Expanded First Year Success Program to be offered in winter and spring quarters for the first time
2014
- Created and implement advising notes to campus, OneStop
- Strengths Finder introduced to Cal Poly campus
2015
- Collaborative Advising of Student Success Initiative took place
- Implemented Professional Development campus event (June)
- Streamlined transfer student PowerPoint presentation to be similar for all colleges and launched Transfer Student Experience Network
