Announcements
- Stacey reported that they hired 2 new advisors in CENG.
- Dee Ann Wells is resigning as Supervisor in the Evaluations Dept. She has agreed to work part-time through April.
Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award
- The committee has made a selection.
- Bonnie will write “you were nominated” letters.
- Mary will write letter of congratulations to the recipient.
Center for Teaching and Learning workshops
- There is another workshop coming up that will cover different advising scenarios (date to be determined). Kathryn and Bonnie will help Cindy with the workshop.
- 9 people attended the winter workshop. Last year 15 attended.
Advertising
- AAC still has money left in its budget to spend on spring term advertising.
- Form the advertising will take: At the retreat, the forms of advertising discussed were ads in the Mustang Daily and sandwich boards.
- Sandwich boards start at $250. The drawback to sandwich boards is that someone has to walk around putting them up and taking them down.
- Banners: Maybe Avery quick-print banners would be easier to put up and take down, and it would be easy to change the message on them. There could be a banner for each college and one for the UU, for a total of eight. Brad could put his up at campus market. During the spring, the message could be “Graduate on time.” Katie will make a banner and see how it works.
- Advertising content: At the spring retreat last year, AAC decided its spring term ’06 focus would be encouraging students to apply to graduate four quarters previous to graduation. Because there is insufficient staff in Evaluations to process those requests, AAC will not focus on that topic. Other possibilities:
- Being better prepared to see your advisor. Mary mentioned that AAC still has advising folders left.
- 8 requirements to graduate: could be the theme for fall. Design fall posters during the summer. Purchase bookmarks with the 8 requirements on them.
- GWR: too late to do fulfill the GWR during spring quarter but could push the idea during fall registration.
- Warn students about changes in registration.
- USCP
- WOW packets: use post-it notes.
Other Business
- Brad and Peggy urged AAC to remain involved and visible in the CMS process.
- Shannon asked if anyone had collected the information on available tutoring from all the colleges in one place. Cindy said that SAS collects that information.
- There is money in the budget to treat Evaluations to some food in a show of appreciation.
- AAC may be able to reach students by teaming up with Housing and offering programs in the residence halls.
- Cindy is retiring in the summer, so AAC needs a new co-chair.
