Outstanding Faculty Advisor 2004-2005: Lorraine Donegan
The Outstanding Faculty Advisor award was developed to recognize outstanding achievement by a faculty member in the area of student advising. Nominations were solicited from faculty, staff, and students across campus. A subcommittee of the Advising Council reviewed the applications.
Professor Donegan is with the Graphic Communications Department, College of Liberal Arts. When nominating Professor Donegan her co-workers said the following:
“Lorraine has made monumental efforts to improve the quality of academic advising in her department. She is open, eager, and inclusive in her approach to the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge and skills. Words I have heard students use to characterize Lorraine in her role as advisor include: caring, energetic, straightforward, friendly, knowledgeable, accessible, smart, and well-liked."
"Lorraine Donegan is passionate about student advising.
Since she is so gifted at advisement, and expresses such
a great interest in the subject, I've asked her to coordinate
advising efforts for our entire department. In summary,
Lorraine Donegan is the model for faculty advisers."
"She is always well-organized and expects her advisees
to be as well. Through her example, Ms. Donegan motivates
her advisees to maintain a high standard and expectation concerning their education. If there is something she doesn't
know, she knows where to find the answer and directs her
advisee accordingly. Ms. Donegan is truly the paradigm of
advisors and I am very fortunate to have her as my advisor."
