Cal Poly offers many services to support academic success. In addition to college advising centers and faculty/major advisors, the following services are available.

Academic Records, Office of

  • The Office of Academic Records is responsible for registration, grades, transcripts, enrollment verification, diplomas, interpreting and enforcing university policies.

Academic Skills Center

Evaluations Unit (part of the Office of Academic Records)

First Year Seminars in Fall

  • First Year Seminars (FYS) are elective credit courses designed to support the success of incoming freshman and transfer students at the university.

Supplemental Workshops in Math

  • Supplemental Workshops in Math is an intensive mathematics program for students who are enrolled in mathematics courses from MATH 100 to 143.

Supplemental Workshops in Science

  • Supplemental Workshops in Science are additional workshops that meet twice a week throughout the quarter in which class members work together to develop study strategies and practice test-taking. Students earn one unit of elective credit.

Study Skills Seminar

  • Study Skills Seminars address topics ranging from time management to test preparation.

Writing Skills

  • The Writing Skills Program provides free, one-on-one tutoring in the Writing Lab (Building 10, Room 138) to assist Cal Poly students with any writing task. The CSU system-wide Graduation Writing Requirement is administered by this office, including the upper-division Writing Proficiency Examination (WPE). The developmental writing courses for students who score low on the English Placement Test are coordinated from this office as well as the screening of unqualified students from freshman composition courses.
